Botox® Tip of Nose Lift Treatment
When you hear the term “nose job,” you may picture in your mind bandages, swelling, bruising around the eyes and a nasally voice during days of recovery. Surgical rhinoplasty can be quite the experience. Not all nose jobs require surgery, though.
Many people are turning to non-surgical nose jobs for convenience. Others use it as a way to determine if they want a more permanent change through surgery. A nose lift is an example of non-surgical treatment for changing the appearance of your nose. Raising the tip of your nose can be accomplished with Botox® treatment.
Nose Lift with Botox
At the junction of the base of the nose and top of the lip is a muscle that can pull the tip of the nose down when you laugh, smile and in some cases, talk. This is the depressor muscle. In some individuals, this action is more pronounced than others.
When injected into this muscle, Botox inhibits nerve signals to the brain, which results in the muscle moving less and becoming more relaxed. With the movement of the depressor muscle inhibited, the nose is no longer downturned, and the tip is automatically released. Fillers may be added to the tip of the nose to provide more support and structure.
What to Expect From Botox Nose Lift
A nose lift using Botox is very effective. Small needles are used to inject the Botox directly into the depressor muscle at the base of the nose. Topical anesthetic or an ice pack may be used to numb the area for your comfort, though you should not feel any pain.
You will not see the results of the treatment immediately since it takes a few days for the Botox to take effect. Once it begins to work, the depressor muscle will no longer pull the tip of the nose down when you smile, laugh or talk. If you are also receiving filler, the Botox treatment will occur about a week before the filler is injected. This waiting period is to give the Botox time to relax the muscle. You will see immediate results when the filler is injected for shaping.
The Botox treatment will last for a few months, and the filler may last a year or longer. Follow-up Botox injections are necessary to maintain your non-surgical nose lift.
