Radiesse® Injections

What is in Radiesse?

The mineral-like substance calcium hydroxyapatite, found in human bone, is a main ingredient in Radiesse. Microspheres of calcium are suspended in a water-based gel that can be injected under the skin. There they provide the structure and support to fill the targeted area. Radiesse also has the ability to stimulate your own cells to produce new collagen. This protein, along with elastin, provides support for the skin. With an adequate amount of collagen and elastin, the skin feels firm and plump.

Advantages of Radiesse

Calcium hydroxyapatite has been used for decades in the fields of dentistry and reconstructive surgery. It has a proven track record of being safe and effective. Because it is one of the heaviest dermal fillers available, Radiesse stays put. Other, lighter fillers can migrate over time, but Radiesse stays in the area where it was injected. It also takes up more space than other fillers, so depending on the targeted area, the results may be better.

Radiesse is biosynthetically reproduced. Unlike some fillers that use animal sources, Radiesse does not, and this means that allergic reactions to the injections are unlikely. Radiesse also has long-lasting results. The filler will usually last a year and possibly longer before another treatment is required.

The downside of Radiesse has to do with its thicker structure. Because of this, injections may be more painful, but anesthetic can minimize the discomfort. Some people may experience more bruising or swelling with injections, but these effects are temporary.
