Botox® Furrow Lines Treatment
Do you have a set of 11s between your eyebrows? These are the furrowed lines between your eyebrows that form the number eleven. These lines can cause you to seem concerned, upset or angry, even though you may not feel that way. Botox® treatment can eliminate or minimize these unsightly lines.
The glabella is the smooth area of skin between your eyebrows. The muscles functioning in this area are basically the corrugator supercilii and the procerus. They work together, along with a few other facial muscles, to produce the frown lines you see. Botox treatment eases the action of these muscles, which allows the glabella area to remain smooth and unfurrowed.
Worry lines can be the result of frequently squinting your eyes or furrowing your eyebrows. Often, people who suffer with migraine headaches or tension headaches will also develop glabellar lines.
Botox Injections
Botox is a neuromodulator that inhibits muscle movement in the areas in which it is injected. When it is used in this area, it reduces the muscle activity that leads to a furrowed brow by blocking nerve signals to the brain. While this may not completely eliminate the lines in every case, it does soften them. Deeper lines may benefit from the added use of dermal fillers to create a smooth look.
Botox was approved for the treatment of moderate to severe glabellar lines by the FDA in 2002. It has a longstanding rate of success for treatment in this area with excellent results. After studying your anatomy, your doctor will determine the number of injections you will need for the procedure to have maximum results.
You will be able to resume your normal activities after treatment, but you should wait a day for strenuous activities. Cold compresses may be used to help with swelling in the injection site area. The procedure is not permanent, but the effects generally last for three to four months.
