Botox® Injections for Chin Dimples
If your chin has a dimpled look resembling the skin of an orange, it is most likely due to the contraction of the mentalis muscle. This pebbly, dimpled appearance can be altered with Botox® injections. An injection of Botox into the mentalis muscle will cause the area to remain in a relaxed state so the dimples will not show. The area remains relaxed even when the muscle is contracted.
While this treatment is not permanent, the results will last for a few months, and it is more cost effective than plastic surgery. Your chin is one of the prominent features of your face. If you are not satisfied with its appearance due to dimples, the Botox option may be the best one for you.
Another concern involving the chin is often the mental crease. This indentation occurs between the lower lip and the chin and forms near the top of the mentalis muscle. This indentation runs horizontally and can produce a puckering effect with the lower lip. In some instances, it is pronounced enough to make an individual look older. Treatment with Botox often provides excellent results. Severely creased chins may also benefit from the addition of a dermal filler.
Creating a Smoother Chin
The dimples and creases that appear on the chin are due to the position of the mentalis muscle. Repetitive motions of this muscle can create changes in the skin above, leading to dimpling or creasing. Research shows that the positioning of the mentalis muscle is hereditary. If your parents have dimpled chins, you are more likely to have one as well. For individuals who do not appreciate this inherited trait, Botox injections can temporarily eliminate the problem.
Botox is a neurotoxin that blocks signals between the nerves and the brain when injected into the muscle. Just enough Botox is injected to cause the muscle to relax, so it no longer produces the amount of tension needed to create the dimples or creases. The natural movement of the muscle is maintained.
